WHY WINNIE THE POOH IS A SELF CARE ICON
Why look to other human beings for self-care inspiration when you could look to nature, or to your imagination? Or even to childhood cartoons?
Hear me out. Here are a bunch of reasons why Winnie The Pooh is my personal self-care inspiration. It’s a non-exhaustive list:
– He only cares about comfort; food, warmth, and fuzzy textures—he knows what he needs at any given time, and pursues it unapologetically. A definite Taurus.
– He’s as generous to the anthropomorphic toys around him as he is to himself. He loves everyone. The definition of honey-sweetness, he is always down for a cuddle.
– He may go by masc pronouns, but Winnie the Pooh is genderqueer. In fact, Winnie is short for Winnipeg, a name assigned to real-life Pooh. Prove me wrong!
– Winnie is the definition of mindfulness. Hence the bestselling book, The Tao Of Pooh. If he sees a butterfly, it doesn’t matter how busy he is (have you ever seen him busy though?)—he will chase it. At least until he gets bored or sleepy.
He loves himself, for himself. Unconditionally.
– He wears NO PANTS AND A CROP TOP, which honestly is my self-care uniform and, it’s fair to say, every human being’s favorite outfit when no one else is around. And he works it.
Winnie takes pleasure in the little things. Winnie is down for adventures. Winnie puts himself first. Remember to ask yourself “What would LGBTIQ icon, Winnie the Pooh do?” this week. And if the answer isn’t “relax and take care of yourself,” or “eat some honey,” please rethink your choices. 😉
Who is your self-care inspiration? Let me know.
